Butterfly Garden in The Making

Quite accidentally I have made a butterfly/bee garden.  I can't for the life of me remember where I got the little lavender flower that spreads like wildfire.  Maybe from my Mama's yard. Does anyone know what this flower is? Is it a wildflower?

I can tell you this, the butterflies and bees race to see who can get there first and it is a frantic pace.  They love it so much.
Chuck and I went flower shopping and I now am putting in four Butterfly Bushes of different colors, Bee Balm, Cone Flowers yellow daylilies were added to the already blooming assortment of daylilies.  This garden has lots of daylilies, and Irises.  I also have a St John's Wort, it is a beautiful plant and I can't wait to see it bloom. I found some beautiful red cupped flowers, can't remember the names but the hummingbirds will love them.

Come take a walk with me and see the butterflies.

"Buckeye Butterfly"

"Eastern Black Swallowtail Buttefly" ?

"Monarch" ?

These pictures were taken same time, same day and I was only out there for a short while.
The bees were too fast for me to get their pictures.

Come back again real soon and I'll show you the latest additions to the Butterfly Garden.
I still haven't shown you the Irises, or the daylily collection, and oh my gosh you haven't seen the hydrangeas yet ...well I will show all of those later.

I hope you all have a nice week.

  1. I think it may be Hyssop but I am not positive. Your leaves look slightly more serrated though...hmmm

  3. How pretty and how lucky you are. Could the flowers possibly be milkweed?

  5. Very pretty butterflies & flowers Dolly. I believe your light purple ~ lilac colored flowers are called, Verbena? They are prolific bloomers, often blooming throughout two seasons. Verbena come in a multitude of colors.

A few Verbena are perennial in warmer zones. So you may see them again next year if your zone is say, 7 or higher? I hope to see a Buckeye Butterfly & Painted Lady here soon as well. What a great garden you have provided for butterflies!
