I Will Eat Green Eggs and Ham!

Do you like green eggs and ham?  We are excited here at Hibiscus House with our new hen that is laying these colorful eggs.  Join us to see how that came about.

What do you get when you cross an Americauna Hen

which lays this color egg

with a Wheaten Marans Rooster

breed that lays this color egg?

You get a pretty chicken

Standing in the front see the tufted feathers on the side of the head? Those are like her mother Cotton Candy, the Americauna standing behind her in this picture.  She has the feathered feet and  white legs like her father the Wheaten Marans have instead of her mother's black legs with no feathers.

 Here she is "Mandy"

You hope you will get a green egg.  I sure did hope for that.  I am not a chicken breeder that is for
sure, but hoped for a green egg with that mix.

Here it is a green egg! I was so excited to see this in the hen house the other day!

It is the first small egg that she has laid and it is cold weather here.  I don't light the houses so they can rest from their Spring and Summer non-stop laying.  Some people do this so that they will lay year round but I let them rest.  Every egg we get this time of year is precious and this one especially was. I am tickled to death it is green...be it olive drab...like it just the same!

I do so like them, green eggs and ham!
Thank you

  1. Love your green egg. I've gotten shades of blue but never such a pretty green. We don't have Wheaten Marans but we do like the cross breeding of Araucanas and Buffs. They are nice and gentle.

    1. Hello! Yes they do..I was so excited to see this green egg. They have layed everyday since then. The mother hen lays that pretty blue egg and they are my favorite but the green is something different. I'd love to see a loons' egg. Good to hear from you Wendy!
