Our New Little Red Chicken Coop

I won this adorable chicken love sign from Purina and it looks great on the pen!  Today we're sharing our newest little hobby coop with you.  Screwdriver in hand and doing it alone, wish me luck. All I can say is if there is a will there will be a way!  A little maneuvering and my little garden wagon and it was done!  Join me today as I share the putting together of this simple little kit from Sam's Club.

The following was downloaded on my YouTube Channel but I have the original that was downloaded at a new site called flipclip.  I'll be doing a product review on this website soon.

The first thing to do is open the box and check for parts & supplies

Tip* have trash bags ready for all of the soft Styrofoam packing materials. I found that my pullets thought it was a treat and started eating it! Hope they survive to enjoy their new home!

Their old home in the background of this photo, replacing none too soon! My trusty screwdriver from my brother, Stevie & other tools ready to go to work!

The design is really cute!

Shingle roof sections

The instructions are in pictures only with simple part numbers. Now, I am pretty bad about reading instructions with anything. That suited me perfectly, however, a time or two, I did have to look very hard at the pictures to see exactly what to do.

Yay, one bottom side done!

The other side is attached in same manner. It's easy, I was just enjoying the pretty warm weather and being outside. There are pre-drilled holes as to where the screws will go. I didn't even pull out my drill to do this project, I have a habit of stripping screws anyway! A Phillips screwdriver is all that is needed.

Ready to add the roof now!
Cute, cute, cute

Oh, how cute!

Top side section, and roofing panels added

Placing it on the garden cart made for easy assembly and moving to location
It is almost done!

I like this little hobby coop!

This looks good with my new Purina Sign!

Almost dark but they are already scratching in their new pen. It was pretty hectic rounding up the girls! I know, I should have waited until they were roosting, but I was too blame excited to see how they'd react to new pen & coop!

This little project was fun! Easy to build! I don't know how long this little thing will last, hopefully long enough for these pullets to enjoy!

I'll try to remember to update as time goes on as to the life of this coop.

One Important Note*
This coop has no floor

You can also email the company service@merryproducts.com and they will send you a PDF of assembly instructions as well.

I did this before opening the huge boxes, because I knew it had rained here for months and I wanted to be prepared to assemble when the weather and time was right.

Should you decide to purchase one for yourself link HERE I will share the run with rooftop gardening soon.

UPDATE

I SADLY SAY I WOULD NOT BUY AGAIN:

THE ROOF OVER THE NEST BOXES - BOTH SIDES HAS DAMAGED
LIFTED FROM RAIN.  THEY ARE CRUMBLING AND WON'T LAST LONG
THE HENS ARE NOT AS PLEASED WITH IT AND FRANKLY HAVE LEFT IT FOR
THE HOMESTEAD COOP PURCHASED AT TRACTOR SUPPLY HERE

I DID CONTACT THE COMPANY BUT THE WARRANTY OF 1 YEAR RAN OUT BEFORE I COULD GET ANYTHING DONE. THE COOP HAD BEGUN TO RUIN MONTHS BEFORE, BUT I NEGLECTED TO NOTIFY THEM. NEEDLESS TO SAY, I STILL WOULD NOT BUY ANOTHER OF THIS TYPE.

Product Review

I do not recommend

The product rots with water damage before the year is up

If you do purchase please be sure to contact the company before the year is up

I neglected to do so and may have gotten some help had I

However I would never buy again cute as it is it is pretty much worthless, I'm sad to say but truth is what I stand behind in Product Reviews

  1. It all looks adorable! You did that all by yourself. I would be really proud. It's pretty cute. I was wondering how many hens it houses? I don't know, but if I had that here, CV I definitely would build a floor base. Maybe from a pallet and a piece of plywood. So cute how you won that sign. I had seen that promotion for the sign. It's such a wonderful set up. Your pulleys will new very happy ❤️

    1. Hi Susie!
Yes I'm thinking of doing just that have never had one without the flooring. It holds 6-8 but all of mine hate to go inside anyway. They roost on poles outside of the houses. I would love a nice walk in coop like my grandma had but that may come later. So good to hear from you sweet friend!
