For years, I've purchased Jane's Crazy Mixed-Up Salt, and I still will because I like it. This week I ordered a large container at a great price. Sadly, it was destroyed in a shipment from Amazon. I needed some to season something I was cooking so......
I decided then and there I would make my own. Granted, this is a trial, and it may not be good, so I'll update later and post.
I thought it would be better to make a small amount for the trial.
Trial Recipe Run:
Dolly's Quick Seasoned Salt Mixture
- 1/4 to 1/2 cup salt - your choice of salt: table, kosher, sea, pink, or any salt you like to use
- 1 teaspoon granulated onion or onion powder
- 1 teaspoon granulated garlic or garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon celery seeds or celery salt
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
Important Notes*
- Taste and adjust the ingredients as needed.
- Keep in mind, sea salt and some other coarse grounds are extra salty
- Typical Amount to use is around half of your usual salt measurement in recipes
I'm still testing, hopefully, soon the mixture will be a good alternative for my home kitchen. Only for times in need. I still love my Krazy Jane's! (no she's not crazy, I just call the salt that).
You can read all about her here and I will continue to buy Jane's Krazy Seasonings. You'll like them but if in a pinch make you some as well.
Remember, you be the judge of how yours will taste, don't count on mine it is still a work in progress.
It's fun to make your own in your home
