A blast from the past Santa
This was the first bust I ever made. I remember it well. It was a lot of fun to create! That was 1989, quite a few years ago. I ran across this picture and just thought I'd share him with you.
It was commissioned for a retail store. While I was sculpting the manager decided that he looked to be of another race his eye sockets were too small to please him. I put in the eyes and let him see. He was still undecided but wanted to keep him overnight to show to the President of the company.
He phoned the next day and asked me to come in and sign a waiver they wanted it, but wanted to mass produce in China. Offered me a lump sum. Needless to say, I didn't want that, did not make him for that, turned them down. Took him home with me to their amazement. Some things are done because of principles. Money (won't disclose the amount but suffice it to say it was a good deal) can't buy everything or everyone.
We enjoyed him for years. My mother-in-law's mink collar came in handy. I think I finally threw him away.....the things we do....

Ol' Santa
I miss this guy, even though he was kinda creepy with just a head. He was still a part of Christmas. He was no more creepy than grandma's furs. Just glad it was not the fur with a face and arms.
ReplyDeleteYou did a great job on him.I didn't know it was only a head, till I read the above comment. You couldn't tell from the picture.
ReplyDeleteCarly you are a mess.
ReplyDeleteMichelle thanks so much it was fun.
That is an amazing Santa bust. It's hard to imagine that it could be anyone's first. Wow. You are so talented. I'd sure love to see more of your sculptures. Thanks for sharing and for linking to the hop. Have a great week.
