Catie's Pink Gradient Cake

Pink Gradient Cake

Preheat Oven to 350 degrees

She used 2 white cake mixes.
Buy ingredients listed on back of box.
Mix ingredients as stated on back of cake mix box.

Add just a touch of Wilton's red paste color with a toothpick.
Add just enough to give a light pink color.
Mix then add 1/4 mixture into one 9 inch cake pan.

Add more food coloring to make a little darker color
Put 1/3 into 9 inch cake pan.

Add little more coloring for an even darker color,
Put 1/2 into 9 inch cake pan.

Add more coloring for the darkest color,
Put remaining into 9 inch cake pan.

Bake & cool as directed.
Cool completely on wire racks.

Icing to Decorate Cakes

(if making 2 layer cake half this recipe.)

2--1 lb. 10X powdered sugar
2 cups crisco shortening
1/2 cup water
2 tsp. vanilla flavoring

Put all ingredients into mixing bowl. Mix on low until powdered sugar is mixed in. Turn up speed to whip it will get light and fluffy.

As you color the cake batter, also color your icing.  Lightest to darkest in color

put on a thin layer to prevent crumbling.
Use a decorator bag or tool with the star tip to decorate.

Very light Pink Icing.

She only made three icing colors and It is beautiful!

Finished product 4 colorful layers inside 3 colors outside.  It is beautiful and tastes good.

Catie says next time she will only use one cake mix and
make lots of thin layers.....

She did a good job and I like it!

  4. What a beautiful cake! I am assuming that Catie is your daughter. I have a niece who spells her name the same way. This cake would make a beautiful birthday cake. I'm not sure I could do those circles, but it's worth a try.

  10. Wow is right. That is beautiful. I am making my baby sister's wedding cake in September and she loves pinks. I wonder if I can duplicate this and make it big enough for 150 and still be able to carry it??? Thank you for this lovely idea Dolly. I am going to have to do a few test cakes and see...

  11. I don't see why not...Whatever your recipe is just add the coloring...wedding cake you my dear are so very talented! There is no way I would tackle a wedding cake...shower maybe not wedding. The girls and I are going to a cake decorating class. My mom and sister went a long time ago and made my wedding cake..I just have never gone...look out we will be baking crazy...
