Goodson's Old Ford Truck

   

 I saw a sight the other day that made me so happy. Granddaddy Goodson's old Ford Truck.

He passed away a good number of years ago. When he did, we had a neighbor who might as well have been my brother, because he stayed with us more than he stayed at his own house.  Mitchell is his name, and he was quite the character, always funny, always laughing.

When Granddaddy died, he told my mama, "Ms. Dot, Mr. Goodson said for you to give me that truck." We all laughed. Do you know what she did?  She gave it to him! Don't get me wrong, everybody was fine with it...it was just so funny. Granddaddy had not told him that, but he was a clown after all.

Sunday, I saw it sitting in my brother Chip's yard. Mitchell brought it back, and after all these years, I was so excited. It is back, and there it sits...pretty as can be to me....flat tires...dirt and all...Welcome home, Goodson's Truck.

Now, if he were still alive, that truck would have to have new tires, a good washing, and a new paint job because he expected everything to be clean, and he would work sunup to sundown, too.
