Merry Christmas

Oh what a glorious day

This is my old tattered Bible Story Book that Mama and Daddy gave to me as a small child.  So small in fact that I don't know when they did this.  We children all enjoyed looking at it and then reading it in later years. I would take nothing for it.

The pictures are beautiful aren't they?

Was Jesus born on Christmas day? We celebrate Jesus' birth on Christmas, but no one really knows what day Jesus was born, or even exactly what year. In 336 A.D., the Western Church, based in Rome, chose December 25 to celebrate as Christmas, meaning "Christ's Mass." The Eastern Church chose January 6. The day was named Epiphany, meaning "appearance." Eventually the period from December 25 to January 6 became known as the Twelve Days of Christmas.

Jesus was born in a stable - the most humble of circumstances. Similarly, Jesus showed us how God's favor rests with the poor and downtrodden. The Gentile wise men came to worship Jesus. Later, the Gentiles would make up most of the Christian world. Herod's attempt to kill Jesus foreshadows His crucifixion about 33 years later.

I wish for all a peaceful, joyful Christmas.  What a wonderful gift God gave to us.
The best gift of all is the gift of salvation, by faith, believing in Jesus Christ who came into this world to save us all.

  1. Merry Christmas, Dolly! I loved seeing your old storybook, the illustrations are so beautiful! What a wondrous story of Jesus' birth and it's so great that you had Christian parents that taught you about Jesus! I love " 'Twas the Night Before Christmas...", and the Grinch, etc, but we must remember the real meaning of Christmas above all else! And tell our children! I hope you have a joyous day with your lovies! Merry Christmas!

  2. Hi Linda,
Merry Christmas to you and your family! Thank you so much for your comments. I agree we must share our faith and where it comes from for generations to know and share it too...I was blessed with great parents. Daddy is now in Heaven and thankfully Mama is still with us. I thank the Lord for them.
    God bless you sweet friend.

  4. Merry Christmas Dolly. I really enjoyed reading this post, and I especially enjoyed the illustrations from your childhood Golden Treasury of Bible Stories. Many of the images are familiar. Makes me wonder if my Grandma read to me from one of these too... She spent hours teaching me to read in an old rocker. I pray that this Christmas has been full of peace and hope in your home. My day was spent at my sissy's house surrounded by nieces and nephews, sisters and spouses, my hubby and kids, and my Mom and Dad. Answered prayer.
