Making Your Own What a Way to Go

CLEANING AND PERSONAL HYGIENE INGREDIENTS

The following is a list of things I try to keep on hand in the cleaning pantry.  You can make any number of needed cleaning and personal hygiene products at any given time.

'Clean & Crisp'

These things work and do so in a way to make for a healthier household in the long run.  I have been making products now at Hibiscus House for a few years and can verify that with little adjustments to your own water conditions mostly, you can too!

People think self sufficient and frugal ideas are some new-different and off the wall, off grid ways of thinking. It is so easy to walk in pick up a bottle of this and that, very convenient But costly and chemical laden. You know that you must live out on the prairie in a log cabin and look like 'Dirty Sally' or live in some 'Hippie Commune'.

I can tell you it is not a new way of thinking.  I remember my grandparents and great grandparents making their own products, growing their own foods and I can tell you that it is not new!  They did so without electricity nor running water and worked hard without the modern things we call basics of everyday living.  Think about it they were much more self sufficient than we are of today.

You can be frugal without giving up anything, as a matter of fact you'll have more money to do the things you like.  I make my own and that saves money to buy my Ralph Lauren dresses that I love.

Make your own products that work much better, cost way less.  Save money, gas, time and enjoy other important as well as fun activities.

Ingredients to Keep on Hand

I have put into bold font the products you definitely need on hand at all times.
The other products can be purchased according to need if you wish.  The choice
is yours as to what you make and what you will need but those highlighted items
can keep you going with cleaning and a number of other uses.

Arm & Hammer Super Washing Soda
20 Mule Team Borax

Seltzer or Sparkling Water

Grapeseed Oil
Lemon Juice
Essential Oils [good therapuetic or food grade]
Watkins Extracts

Oxi-Clean
Final Touch, Purex or Downy Fragrance Crystals [optional for added scent]

Did I mention the money you can save?   Well you most certainly can save and lots too.  Have you priced the cost of laundry detergents, softeners, cleaners?  Yes I know you have especially if you buy regularly. You may not be interested in saving money but most of us are and if a little extra effort can save you a huge amount of money in the long run then why not?

In the year 2015 I only purchased two huge laundry liquids from Sam's Wholesale and one smaller.
Those were used in my husband's uniforms because that is what he likes. Otherwise, I use the products I have made myself to wash all of the other laundry, even my fine hand washables , [even his everyday and dress clothing plus my Ralph Lauren as well]!

Personal Hygiene:
I make my own deodorant and toothpaste [without fluoride] next up will be making my own skin care products.
Also Did You Know?  You can use rubbing alcohol for deodorant!  I did this solely for one year!  It works and works well.  I now use it and switch out with my beeswax deodorant and find that works great!
Note
When you first go homemade alternatives to deodorants you will have a short time when you will have a different odor but then it goes away.  You will also perspire a lot at first and then that subsides.  I don't know what it is, maybe your body is getting rid of some toxins.  Either way it is very short lived and No you won't make anyone sick around you AND you won't have the need for strong chemical laden, cancer causing antiperspirants!

    1. Hey Sandra,
Thank you! Let me know how they work for you. I found that with my hard water I have to use a little more than other mixtures seen online. Mine work for me and you may have to use more or less according to your water source. You know by now that I love your wool dryer balls and use them almost daily. Oh and thank you for the hop invite!
