Saying Goodbye To and Celebrating The Life Of Oskar
Catie brought this little darling home one day in 2011
And we've enjoyed him every minute for 14 years.
Today we share our loss of this very much loved part of the family
Catie's Eulogy
Oskar von Weinerschmit 2011-2025
Miniature Dachshund / Professional Blanket Burrower / Part-Time pool dog
Oskar passed peacefully today after almost 14 years of being the tiniest, goofiest, most loving little shadow a person could ask for.
He had a name far too big for his tiny body, but it fit just right. He gave kisses that ended in little nose nibbles (we called them “face bites”), insisted on being rocked like a baby, was the ultimate pool buddy, and could tunnel into a blanket faster than you could blink.
Oskar was pure sweetness, and letting him go was the hardest, kindest thing we could do. His body was tired, and it was time to give him peace. We will miss him more than words can say, but we are so grateful that he chose to spend his life with us.
I've only known a cat and a dog as close once, and they were daddy's
Only he could burrow into his blankie and have this showing on top
I saw him one evening, and this is what I saw through the window!
Everything he did was so blame cute!
At one time, he was the Chief Guard Dog in the Chicken Yard, and kept many coyotes, raccoons, opossums, etc away from them!
Oskar, on his last day, made his way around to the garden to work one last time
He was my gardening sidekick, and it made him so happy
Today, he was so sick, but it was as if he knew, and nothing was going to stop him
Roly is keeping him company as they watch me garden for Oskar's last day here He was too weak to be my close shadow, but he didn't miss one moment of it from where he sat
He watched me for over 3 hrs straight, such loyalty and protection
He has protected me many times
A great watchdog in many ways, intruders didn't stand a chance!
Yet he was such a loving pet and so intelligent
These Two Are Lost Without Him Now!
Trashmouth, a very smart king of a cat, 'The King' in his mind for sure
Such a character!
He truly is in mourning and has been ever since we took Oskar to the vet
We've had to spend lots of time talking to, holding, rubbing, and consoling this cat. We still are.
He can't find his daddy/mama, Oskar, who taught him everything he knows (literally) As sick as Oskar must've been, he still took the time to mold, teach this young pup a lot
We watched as he did it, and it was a delight to see
This pup is so highly intelligent that I expect he will be saying words before it's over and will know their meaning. You can look at him and know what he is thinking. I've never known a dog such as he He's not replaceing our Oskar, but he is loved and already a member of our family
Since Oskar has been gone
He's spent every waking minute looking for him I've seen him and that cat with actual tears coming down their cheeks for days
They are so lost without him
Now that is touching

Picking Strawberries!
And
His last day here and his last treat
After watching me garden for so long, he got up some energy and went back to the front porch
One last time.
We took him to Carly's to be with all of the family together
He seemed to have a wonderful, loving time, even playing with Philly
In Closing
This sweeter than anything, little dog is now gone, and we miss him like crazy. I don't think we'll ever find another as sweet and smart as he, but he left us with one he tried to train. He did a great job with Roly, and for that, we're grateful. I do believe he knew his time was limited on this earth, and he wanted all to be protected.
Catie & Doug are missing their fur child
Carly & Family are too
Chuck is missing his porch-sitting buddy
I am missing my constant shadow, gardening buddy, protector, fur friend, and confidant
(lol, yes I said that)
I know this was a very long post, but how else can you say goodbye to a family member of
14 years?
It's my way of mourning, remembering, loving, and carrying on.
May God bless all, and we thank Him for this little loving companion He gave to so many.
Isn't it wonderful that the Lord gives us companions in all walks of life to make it so enjoyable?
Oscar sure was a character and adorable too! I am so sorry for your loss. It is not at all easy to lose them. They become such a part of our lives and they give us so much joy. Take care and hugs to you and your 4 legged family.
