June is here can you believe it?  I can't these months just fly by.  You probably remember the cute little picture that I posted not long ago.  It is amazing how quickly they grow!  They are very beautiful and sweet!  Look at them  aren't they adorable?  They have really grown come on inside and see how much...

Buff Orpington is a breed of chicken named after the town of Orpington, Kent, in south-east England, which was made famous in part by this breed.  It was bred to be an excellent layer with good meat quality.
Orpingtons lay about 175 to 200 medium to large light-brown eggs a year.  They do not stop laying in the winter.  It is said that at one time Orpingtons were capable of laying as many as 340 eggs per year.  This decline in production was due to breeders selecting for looks over utility. Wikipedia

I find that sad that they bred the fabulous egg laying out of them...imagine 340 eggs per year! I do like the fact that they are such gentle birds and can become broody.  That just may help in the future when we need more hens here at Hibiscus House.

I moved their home into a fenced in pen for safety and separation.  They will still be on starter food for more weeks to come.

True Lavender Rumpless Araucana

It is with a heavy heart that I tell you our Jesse the Lavender Rumpless Araucana has died.  He became sick very quickly and has died.  He is in this video checking out the new chicks above. I'm glad he came around that day so he is on film.  He was a pretty rooster.  I hatched him and he was one of the rarest that we had here.  He will be missed.
