I know Chippy and Cat are happy about this.
Friends that worked or hung around the shops Too. We all are!
It is still so hard for us to believe he is gone but we'll always have his memory

A huge thanks to Dargan Watts a true friend to all racers!

Kind words from Dargan Watts

Thanks to all you great fans, a young man who lost his life 20 years ago doing what he loved to do was shown your love for him the the past couple of weeks by casting your votes for Julius D. "Slick" Johnson III to be recognized by Joe Gibbs racing, Cup points Leader Denny Hamlin and Sport Clips Haircuts sponsored Toyota in the May 9, 2021 "Throwback" racing event at Darlington Raceway.
Johnson and his father, Junior Johnson, had their race car shop only a stones throw from the famed speedway and their doors were open to Darlington competitors if they ever needed repairs on their race cars. Years ago, most of the competitors only had ONE car and if was damaged in practice, it had to be repaired and the Johnsons were always available to help with the repairs.
It is only fitting that Johnson was selected as the honoree for the Gibbs car with him being a former competitor who lived close by, but the founder and CEO of Sport Clips Haircuts, Gordon Logan, is a native of nearby Sumter, S.C. and was a competitor at Sumter Speedway in 1964. The next time you need a haircut, you might show your appreciation to Gordon Logan by visiting one of his 1,800 locations across the country.

You can see another article by Dargan about the Johnson Racing shared here on the blog.
