Carly chose well!
We made it!
We may have come to see Martha Stewart, but Carly and I had a lot of adventure in the short time we were in Charleston! She gave me one of the 'Best Birthdays Ever!'
Wonderful seating in the lobby
Beautiful ornate chandeliers fill the hotel.
I'll call this chandelier 'Sparkly'
Whimsical Touches All-Around
Well, I Do Declare!
You know I love these! Southern touches everywhere!
I laughed when I saw the tag hanging on the door of our room
'Hold Your Horses'
OUR HOTEL ROOM
The beds were so comfortable! We had a great night's sleep.
THE IRON ROSE BAR & RESTAURANT
The Dining Room at The Mills House Hotel
Carly and I were exhausted from our day of sightseeing and chose to eat in the room. Our huge meal from the dining room. Check out those tater tots! We ate as hard as we could but had enough to feed an army.
THE BLACK DOOR
The Black Door Cafe is another location for food & beverages at The Mills House Hotel. Delicious restaurant and cafe. You won't go hungry that's for sure!
THE COURTYARD
The hotel has a grand fountain!
This fountain is connected to a spring that is indeed historical and said to have saved this very hotel from complete destruction during the great fire.
Our Short Video of this beautiful fountain and a roaring fireplace
Walk a few steps and you will be at
S'MORES IN THE COURTYARD
How great is that?
Carly loaded me down with crackers and candy! This was a lot of fun!
I'm having the time of my life! Carly doesn't want her picture taken, but she is smiling.
Historical Facts, Guests, and Ghost Stories
While we were in the courtyard eating our S'mores a gentleman tour guide and his guests came in and sat nearby. So, we sat in on some pretty interesting stories about The Mills House Hotel. We didn't know that the hotel was known as the most haunted in Charleston! Many have seen ghosts of the severely burned walking the halls. Some have been seen in mirrors of the hotel.
The guide told of the horrible fires and destruction during the Civil War. Many lost their lives during that time. The Mills House became a makeshift hospital to treat the many burned and injured victims. It withstood destruction during the Great Charleston Fire.
Robert E. Lee stayed in the hotel. He along with others helped to save it during the horrible fire, by dousing it with buckets of water drawn from the fountain.
Sadly many lost their lives and are said to have roamed the halls and some of the front rooms of the hotel. It is said that the front older section is the most haunted.
We knew nothing of the history behind the hotel
Needless to say, it was quite interesting,
We saw no ghosts in our stay, although if you follow us you already know we're no strangers to ghosts.
UNTIL NEXT TIME
A Good Tour with The Guide I do believe that we enjoyed listening to here in the picture above.
