Hibiscus House Hydrangeas

Oh my goodness it's the first day of Spring!  This is my absolute favorite time of year!  Happy Spring Y'all!

I ran across many Hydrangea posts this morning.  These beauties always amaze me. It seems I've taken many pictures of them over the years.

The varieties we have here at Hibiscus House are Nikko Blue, Limelight, and Oakleaf Hydrangeas.

Nikko Blue I planted up against the back of the house because in my memories the grandparents had theirs in that location.  Would I plant them again there, that's debatable.  I'd definitely have them but possibly in another spot.

Hydrangeas can steal the show when in bloom.  In fact, on one single shrub, you may have many different colors. The colors can vary with the rainbow at any given time. If you want a floral display for your garden and for use inside the home then you must plant some of these.

There is a downside to Hydrangeas when not in bloom. They are pretty ugly. They are deciduous shrubs, which means they lose their leaves and of course bloom yearly. They have many stiff curving woody stems. The good thing is that fact is quickly forgotten when they begin to leaf out and bloom their little heads off!

I do believe they now have some varieties that are evergreen, but I've yet to own one.

Join me today as I share in pictures. If you wish to see more you can click the links for any given year. They're just wonderful! Some are as big as a dinner plate!

  1. Hydrangeas are beautiful. They are even pretty dried out in a vase. We used to have 4 old giant bushes when we owed Nicks grandmothers old home. Sadly we moved and did not take any pieces of the bushes with us. They always put on a show for us.

    1. Hey Lisa,
They really are. I'll bet you did enjoy those Hydrangeas. It does seem like plants home places do hold special memories. It's good we can find some of the old fashioned ones like those at nurseries. If I had it to do over again I'd probably plant mine in another location. But for sure I'd have some. If you can get a few leaves from them you can put them in root tone and they'll grow. That would be cool

  2. Gorgeous photos of hydrangeas! Lots of inspiration -- We have a couple of hydrangeas in our yard. They bloom for a long time, and their blossoms are beautiful.
