Casper

"Casper"
Look at that face!  He smiles.  Look at that huge smile!
That's my little baby.  I say little but he is huge.  He is dirty and matted but is going to get a much needed grooming soon.  He is precious and so loving.  I'll get another picture of him after I groom him.  He is so pretty.

Funny Backyard Animals

Each animal has a certain personality or trait.  I find them all amusing.  Although I don't spend as much time hatching out more chicks or adding to this menagerie of critters, I still enjoy them very much.

Spot and Casper

I need to apologize for the poor quality of the photos, but it was getting dark and animals don't care about the lighting.  It seems if you can even catch them at what they do naturally it is a miracle.
These two are the best of friends. A rooster named Spot and Dog named Casper.
Spot is you may remember the calm even tempered rooster that goes about his day minding his own business.  We have other roosters however like Pharoah that doesn't and has to challenge all of the time. When he does this Spot just runs over to Casper. They are the cutest things.

Check out Spot prancing around Look at that foot he is so happy so is Casper.
Casper is a great chicken dog.

Best Buds

This picture is worth it all.
Yes Spot must love dog food but he just does this a short while and then
he eats his chicken feed.
He loves his new best bud.

Have a great week!

Casper the Escape Dog

Casper, What can I say about him? I haven't spoken much about Casper lately have I?  I don't think that I told you he ran away and I could hear him barking but couldn't find him.  Chuck had been up and down the road off and on for a day searching.  We finally found him at a neighbor's home. He had found their children to be very likeable and they liked him, so much so that they gave him a name, "Fuzzy".  We brought him back home but knew he had enjoyed his day away.
He has stayed at home since then. Well here, but not in his pen, and not protecting our chickens...

Casper and the Chickens

Casper, the dirty Great Pyrenees, King the White Rock Rooster, Pat The Hammer (named by my grandson) and Cora Lee

I think it's time to show these wonderful creatures.  It's been awhile since I've shown them.  The weather was pretty and a few ventured out the gate to eat.  Come on out as we sit and watch the backyard animals.....

March What's Going On?

Hello, how are you?  Here in South Carolina it is a beautiful bright, sunny day.  The roosters are crowing, the hens are laying big beautiful eggs, and Casper the Great Pyrenees is happy.  I've been thinking about a weekly update as to what is going on out here in the country.  It may be pretty, then again it may not.  Come on in and sit a spell.

It's Beginning to Look Like Spring in the Chicken Pen

I do believe that is what Gaston is thinking. This was the first day I let the young Buff Orpington Hens out into the large area. He was flustered with them.  The chicken yard is full of activity today.

Gaston Decides to Leave the Coop!

I don't know if he thought about it for awhile or if that fateful day he just decided he wanted to be free.  All I know is I opened the gate to feed them up and let Casper out for his daily run.  The door was open as always but on this day Gaston decided to saunter on out of it.

Little Dickens is Back!

She was gone for three days, but she came back.  I'd say that was a miracle and a blessing.

'Mimi's' Boot Camp

Every year I have my grandson for what I like to call 'Mimi Camp'.  A boot camp of sorts.  That is what I tell him anyway.  This year I have the two of them. 'Lil One' is now old enough to come to camp also.  We do hard labor.  Well, come on in I'll tell you all about it....

Good Morning All!

Good Morning All!

Spring is here and in South Carolina it is as if Summer is here today.  Temps may be up to 85 degrees!  Yesterday we had family here and what fun to see the little grands running and playing outdoors.  Yes, they wanted "Mimi" to run and play too.

Birds are filling the yard, singing and flying around.  Whoops, one just flew into the kitchen window, guess it's trying to come inside with me.  Flowers are blooming daffodils and wildflowers.  The grass is getting greener.  Beautiful and my favorite time of year.

The animals are getting restless.  The chicken pen is full of activity as you can imagine because you know I have way to many roosters.  They of course are fighting with the others...with a fence between them that is hard to do.  I'm laughing, it doesn't stop them they stand up to each other anyway.  The lone roosters are free range and the others are in with their kind...well sort of.  Funny stuff they have a village all their own and are fun to watch.

Casper the Great Pyrenees just puts up with anything.  He is the best dog.  He needs a good washing, grooming from a long cold winter.  I wish I could show you how big he has gotten.  When he is excited and stands he is so much taller than I.  Chickens still eat from his pan and his best bud is still Spot The Barred Rock Rooster. Love that dog.

First post that I did over at Savannah Attic.:  Spring and David Austin Roses which is a beauty trail of wonderful photography and motivation for enjoying them in our own gardens!  I hope to have loads of gardening information as well as other interests like recipes, lots of DIY, decor. We will have lots of Guest Post too. Here at Hibiscus House, the door is always open and the breezes are blowing on the front porch.

I had an enjoyable short time over at Savannah Attic

Enjoy this beautiful day

Snow 2018

I'm just now relaxing.  Well, I was until a car went into the ditch up front.  We do live almost a quarter of a mile from that road.  Whoa (Woe)  is me, somebody has to check on them!  Talking snow today....

Spot The Barred Rock Rooster

Spot is such a sweet rooster.  I hatched him about 4 years ago and he is my baby.
There have been times that he has been so quite and secluded in his own world that I have ignored him.  He is a very humble rooster.  He looks a little rough, lost feathers too. Pharoah gave him a beating even down to pecking his eye so I put Spot outside the pen and he has been running around freely.  Every morning he comes up to the bay window at the kitchen and crows.  He needs some attention.

I locked Pharoah back up and put Spot back into the open pen with
Casper the Great Pyrenees Dog
They even eat out of the same bowl and are now friends.
I need to get a picture of that they are cute together.

Spot loves his shadow!

Spot has the cutest personality. He really enjoyed his short time out in the wide open space.
I enjoyed him having his freedom and visiting up at the house. I think he likes looking at his own shadow!

Update!
Spot died in 2015 from some sickness that Little Dickens brought back.
Little Dickens ran off came back and never acted the same.
She spread a paralyzing sickness that killed several hens and roosters.
I learned that I will never put a chicken back in with the others even though I thought I had quarantined her for about a month it wasn't long enough.

It's Turkey Time!

Can you believe it is that time of year already?  I can't!  Around here it is turkey time in more ways than one.  These beauties came through the back yard not long ago.  They certainly have grown!  You may remember they came through earlier in the year.
